The Danish Council for Strategic Research
The food and health sectors each play a key role not only for the earnings and employment of the parties involved as well as the national economy, but for the entire nation’s quality of life and welfare. The programme aims especially to support interdisciplinary initiatives and also seeks to promote international collaboration. Ideally, candidate projects should incorporate perspectives and issues from the humanities and social sciences, while the research should ensure the development of applications characterised by their utility value and sustainability.
There is therefore a need to improve the ability of both sectors to cater to future consumer preferences and needs nationally and internationally, and a need to ensure that this is achieved by economically and environmentally sustainable means. There is a particular need to focus on challenges and improvement potentials in the interface between the health and food area in respect to global trends.
Funding is available for research into the connection between diet and lifestyle, including factors determined by changes in professional and private life; the interaction between diet and genes; and for the development of improved and well-founded dietary recommendations which will contribute individually or in combination to an improvement in health at the individual, group and national level. Furthermore, funding is available for research within projects concerning environmental, health and ethical related issues applying new technology in the crossing of health, food and life style.
