Rehabilitation is a goal-oriented and time-limited collaborative process between a citizen, his or her family and professionals. The object is for the citizen, who due to a medical condition is afflicted by or at risk of being afflicted by substantial limitations in his or her physical, mental, cognitive and/or social function, to achieve an independent life.
Rehabilitation comprises nursing, medical care, treatment/therapy, retraining and counselling. Rehabilitation consists of coherent processes, often involving the assistance and services of a combination of multiple professional disciplines, e.g. clinical medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology.
The aim is to promote research that documents the effects of methods in treatment, retraining and nursing from a holistic perspective on the citizen, with the involvement of professional expertise in the projects. These would include interventions and professional teams in disciplines such as clinical medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social work and psychology.
Besides investigation of the effects of rehabilitation, this field of research also comprises organisation, finances and patient/user perspectives associated with rehabilitation.
