Provision of care is an important part of public health and social welfare, especially when chronic illnesses are involved. The demographic change brings new challenges for the care system: Family structures and models change, the number of single households grows, shorter residential times in hospitals and changes in the general health structures. This leads to new demands for care services and changes in the necessary organisation and provision of care itself. Receivers of care develop new demands for quality in care - they seek a high level of independence in daily life. Care is becoming more and more important, which is also reflected in public health budgets. Care services are evolving also into a major economic driver.
To fulfil these new challenges, the traditional organisation model of care is no longer valid. Effectiveness and efficiency in care practice leads needs scientifically proven evidence combined with traditional tacit knowledge of parishioners. Change and progress need research. What is needed are the right framework conditions for successful research projects and funding for research projects in order to gain the necessary empirical evidence and knowledge. The aims are in focus of the funding theme „Applied Care Research“, which has been established in 2001.
Health & Performance
A the beginning of the funding programme 36 applicants submitted 58 project proposals. In the first phase 4 integrated projects with 26 sub-projects were funded. Here the knowledge base to investigate and advance care practice and methods to evaluate care models were developed.
In the 2 nd phase of funding care concepts from the 1 st phase will be evaluated in quantitative research studies. This evaluation is done by 3 integrated projects.
