Federal Ministry of Education and Research – Ref. 615

The incidence and course of chronic diseases are strongly influenced by individual behaviour and disincentives, as well by health risks from the social and physical environment. Behaviour often can not be changed without changing the way of life, which in turn is strongly associated with the living conditions. The Advisory Council for Concerted Action in Health underlined in its Report 2000/2001 the necessity for a stronger expansion of primary prevention in order to redistribute the existing resources. These means are supposed to improve the quality and the efficiency of the health system.

Health & Performance

The aim of the funding activity is to strengthen research on primary prevention and health promotion in close cooperation with providers of prevention. In the project new concepts and programmes for the prevention of diseases are being developed and tested. In addition, quality and function are examined by existing prevention measures (evaluation). The aim is to develop and identify effective, practical and well-usable prevention services. The earliest possible access to effective measures for all communities needs to be ensured through close cooperation between prevention providers such as health insurance and researchers. Primary prevention and health promotion should be improved through targeted, high-quality research.
